Abandoned Days Inn

DEMOLISHED

On today’s exploration, we venture into an abandoned Days Inn. Words cannot explain how bad it was inside, on top of the natural decay of an abandoned building the vandalism was just unreal. And the mold was like nothing we’ve have seen before. Join Jess and I as we explore what is left.

Originally opened as a Sheraton Motor Inn on October 22, 1973, the hotel hosted a lavish, invitation-only, grand opening party two days prior that included cocktails, ceremonies, dinner, entertainment, and dancing. The new two-level hotel featured 145 guest rooms, each with color television set. The amenities included the Glenwood restaurant, live entertainment in the Dell Lounge, an indoor ‘tropical’ courtyard with heated pool, saunas, a poolside bar and café, coffee shop and game room, and banquet facilities.

In 1976 a lawsuit was filed against the Sheraton for $758,500 for back mortgage payments. The Sheraton also defaulted on a $610,000 note that was due in November 1974. The lawsuit was later settled. In 1999 the Sheraton Motor Inn became a Days Inn, however, despite a remodeling in 2010 the hotel closed after the 2014 holiday season. Some reports have the hotel closing in 2013.

Four years later in 2018, there was some interest in the property which would have led to its raising and being replaced by a new modern hotel. As of 2020, the Days Inn continues to decay and be destroyed by vandalism.
